Basement floods after pipe break during Winter Storm

When pipes freeze in extreme winter weather and then thaw out as temperatures rise, these pipes tend to crack and burst, causing leaking and flooding.

A home in Michigan without a working furnace, even for a couple of hours can cause serious risks.  Recently, SERVPRO of Farmington & Farmington Hills were called out to a home that was for sale in the Metro Detroit area to mitigate a water damage.  Upon entering the home, the technicians discovered several feet of standing water in the basement. Moisture from the basement caused extensive damage to the upper floors.  Most of the materials including walls, ceilings, floors, and cabinets removed due to the water damage.

Prevent frozen pipes from damaging your home by keeping your home’s thermostat no lower than 55 degrees Fahrenheit.  If you will be out of the home for a lengthy period, consider shutting off and draining your water system.

SERVPRO Professionals have the experience, expertise, and the resources to remediate damage caused by winter weather.
